Medics Ball – Our first event!

We’re all still very much on a high from such an amazing first event.  Saturday 11th June was the night that we had all been building up to and it certainly didn’t disappoint!  The event was organised by the social committee for a group of junior medics, across three hospitals based in the South West.  Rockbeare Manor had been chosen as the venue to host their Summer Ball – a well earned celebration for them all.

Greeted by our welcoming team

140 guests arrived from 6.45pm, greeted by the Rockbeare Manor team (and of course a chilled glass of Prosecco!). A close-up Magician wandered from group to group, captivating them all, whilst a harpist played under the archway of the South Pavilion.

Prosecco Awaits!

It had been a bit cloudy all day with some showers, and so we were all so relieved that the guests could enjoy the drinks reception outside by the fountain. At the call for dinner you could see the excitement on everyone’s faces, keen to see what they were going to be eating that evening and they certainly seemed impressed when the starters arrived, a real feast, created by our dedicated kitchen team lead up by Head Chef Ben Upton, along with Troy Johnson.   All the food at Rockbeare Manor is sourced locally in Devon, Somerset and the South West – always fresh, and organic where possible and prepared in our brand new fully equipped professional kitchen.

The menu for the evening:

During dinner an artist created hilarious caricatures of those at the party – the atmosphere throughout the event was brilliant. Everyone was so friendly – a really fun bunch, and they all very much enjoyed themselves (our Strawberry Mojito’s and or Gin and Elderflower Fizz seemed to go down very well!).

Soon after dessert, and before the rest of the evening’s entertainment commenced, all the guests were invited to go around to the front of the house for a group photograph. Rockbeare Manor, and the acres of private parkland in front of it make the most memorable backdrops for any special occasion.

Then it was time to party!! The DJ began and from the start the dancefloor was packed, and the great tunes just kept on coming.  Not only that, there was a chocolate fountain, stand up comedian, bucking bronco in the garden, and ‘Alfie’ the Black Cab Photo Booth which was busy all night capturing funny poses of those that jumped in!

So all in all – a huge success and so there are lots of smiling faces here at Rockbeare Manor.  We love nothing more that welcoming people into a venue which we are very proud of, and at the heart of it, for us, it’s about listening to our clients in order to help them create an event that is extraordinary, that far exceeds any expectation that they had, and leaves all who attend positively ‘wowed’!

“I just want to say a really big thank you for Saturday night! Everyone had such a great time and really enjoyed themselves. Thank you for all of your effort and hard work and making sure that the night ran as smoothly and as stress-free as possible. I really did appreciate it greatly! Rockbeare Manor is a beautiful venue combined with such an incredible team!”

Considerations for a Summer Wedding

There is no doubt about it, Rockbeare Manor looks captivating in every month of the year – from the fabulous autumnal colours that inundate the many acres of parkland in October and November, to the welcoming open fires and grand period features of the house in Winter time.  The Spring brings yet more wonder which evolves throughout the season with Daffodils, Bluebells, Wild Orchids, Daisies and Buttercups and not forgetting the ancient Wisteria which climbs the East façade of the Manor.  Each season is equally as beautiful in its own way for weddings and special occasions, but with it almost upon us (and as it is the season in which we will hold our very first wedding!) we can’t help but look forward to the summer weddings we will be hosting at Rockbeare Manor this year.

Wedding: Bride and Bridesmaids

From where the ceremony takes place to the kind of food you serve, summer weddings provide a great opportunity to unleash your creative side and experiment with the many colours and themes that work so perfectly at that time of year.

Naturally summer offers more opportunity to have your ceremony in the great outdoors, surrounded by nature and in the glorious sunshine, making for a day that you and your guests will never forget. At Rockbeare Manor, our outdoor terrace is the perfect place to conduct a ceremony whatever the size.  You’ll say your vows under the archway of the South Pavilion with views reaching across our breath-taking parkland to the surrounding Devon countryside, Dartmoor and Haldon Hills — what better backdrop to your wedding ceremony?

No matter what time of year, it’s important to think about the likely weather on the day to make sure that your choice of wedding attire will be appropriate.  Summer gives you a breadth of choice where this is concerned so you really can make it even more personal to your taste. For the bride there are some absolutely stunning shorter dresses to be found – perhaps a 50’s style calf length gown teamed with a vintage parasol, or a long bohemian style dress made from a lighter material which is soft and elegant.  Both these options will ensure that you can withstand a warm day whilst still looking and feeling fabulous.  The same goes for the groom, if you want to embrace the feeling of summer why not go for a linen suit, or chino’s paired with a tailored jacket instead of a more traditional woollen one.  Don’t forget, there are no rules and so if you would prefer not to wear a jacket, waistcoats can look just as smart and can really add personality and style to your day.

Food will always be a talking point so it’s important to get it right, but the great thing is that summer offers a huge variety of choices unique to this season.  Stay away from hot and heavy starters like soup, and hearty main courses like lamb shank or roasted beef and Yorkshire pudding as it’s the last thing you will want to eat on a sunny day. As the weather is likely to be fine, then it may be a good idea to serve light meals, such as our Laverstoke mozzarella with cherry vine tomatoes, chilli jam and toasted pumpkin seeds, followed by roast rack of lamb or even a perfectly cooked fillet of beef. We take enormous pride in our menus at Rockbeare Manor, and we will work with you to create the best menu for your wedding day across the seasons.

Then of course there are the flowers.  If you’re getting married during the summer months you have extensive choice over the flowers that you can use in bouquets, buttonholes and table decorations. Think sunflowers, gerbera daisies, roses; summertime brings into bloom a whole range of beautiful, colourful flowers so whether you prefer soft and subtle or bold and vibrant you really can take your pick.

Here at Rockbeare Manor in Devon  we love weddings, in every season, and we will do everything we can to ensure that your wedding day goes just the way you imagined.
