Making the most of autumn at Rockbeare Manor

At Rockbeare Manor, we’re lucky to be able to host weddings at any time of the year, and we’re proud to say that this beautiful wedding venue works in any season.

Winter means crisp, frosty views across East Devon and Exeter, spring and summer mean that our beautiful wildflower meadow and sloping lawns look breathtaking, as does the tree blossom and plants in the garden, but if you ask us, it’s often autumn that wedding venues like Rockbeare Manor really come into their own.

Here is our list of the top five reasons to get married at Rockbeare Manor in autumn:

1. Roaring fires and candlelight

Walk in to stunning entrance hall of Rockbeare Manor, and you’ll be greeted by comfy sofas and a huge roaring fire (we have five fireplaces throughout the building). Maybe you’d like to use our classic candelabras and enjoy eating your wedding breakfast by candlelight?

Your guests will immediately feel relaxed, perhaps enjoying a mulled wine or Winter Pimms in front of the fireplace. Soak up the wonderful ambience as your guests sit by the fire, our beautiful rooms lit by the soft glow of candles.

2. Bold colour schemes

Autumn is the perfect time to step away from those pastel shades that look so pretty bathed in the summer sunshine. Now is the opportunity to embrace red, orange, gold, and rust coloured shades. At Rockbeare Manor, we’ve decorated the interior of our house with neutral shades, which means that the great autumnal colours in our grounds bring real impact.

And when it comes to styling your bridal party, you could wear a fur cape over your wedding dress to keep warm, or dress your bridesmaids in a red or burnt orange to really stand out in those all important photographs. We’re seeing more and more of our grooms wearing tweed, which looks fantastic set against a backdrop of the trees changing colour.

3. Natural flowers and foliage

Many people don’t realise the sheer amount of flowers and foliage that really come into their own during the autumn. Just think of those beautiful leaves that could work so well in your buttonholes. Or you could use berries and nuts in your table arrangements? There are also many species of flowers (think roses and hydrangeas) that look fabulous as they’re just beginning to turn away from their pastel colours, into more autumnal shades.

It’s always a great idea to chat to your Wedding Planner, we have our own in-house team at Rockbeare Manor, and florist to see if they have any great ideas for making your colour scheme come to life. We can also tell you where the light works best at Rockbeare Manor, and where your floral arrangements can be displayed for best effect.

4. Good weather

There’s something special about autumn sunshine, and so far this year we’ve enjoyed a mild autumn with guests able to make use of our stunning gardens. It means there are opportunities to both enjoy being outside with your guests, as well as coming inside and sitting by that welcoming fire.

We know that by getting married in the UK, you’re probably not going to be particularly fussy about the weather, but we really have seen some stunning backdrops this autumn as guests have enjoyed their reception drinks outside in the last of the sunshine, or in our warm and cosy entrance hall.

5. Seasonal food

This is where our Head Chef Ben, really comes into his own. We’re proud to use Devon’s own larder when it comes to creating your wedding breakfast menu, and will always look locally first to seek the best ingredients available.

You could incorporate apples and blackberries in to your desserts, or perhaps use butternut squash and pumpkins in your main course. It’s also a wonderful time for wild mushrooms, and a great time for game (think duck or pheasant). If fish is your thing, then mackerel and sea bass both tend to be readily available at this time of year, from the nearby East Devon coast.

Whichever season you’d like to get married in, Rockbeare Manor is one of the finest wedding venues in Devon. if you would like to find out more about having your wedding at Rockbeare Manor, give Aimée a call on 01392 796015 and we’d be delighted to show you around.
